Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy of copper with a 2 μm thulium fiber laser

چکیده
We report the first implementation of a 2 μm thulium fiber laser in a Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy system. Emission from plasma on copper samples was analyzed from 200 to 900 nm. The low ablation fluence (<100 J.cm −2 ) and 200 ns pulse duration lead to a plasma with neither continuum emission, nor air emission in the near-infrared region. ©2010 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (060.3510) Lasers, fiber; (300.6365) Spectroscopy, laser induced breakdown; (350.5400) Plasmas. A nonlinear coefficient of 3.6-4.1 W-1 km-1 and group velocity dispersion of -20 ps2/km of a commercial core-pumped thulium-doped fiber have been evaluated using degenerate four-wave mixing at 2 μm. The anomalous dispersion behavior of the fiber has been confirmed by linear measurements with an all-fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI). Additionally, no pum...
متن کاملThe effect of self-absorption correction using internal reference on determining heavy metals concentration by laser induced breakdown spectroscopy
The identification and concentration of heavy metals, which may be so harmful for the body, is determined by the method of calibration-free laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy using a special strategy. First, the plasma temperature is obtained using the Boltzmann plot. Then, a line with an inappreciable self-absorption is considered for each element as the reference. The modified intensities o...
متن کاملRaman soliton generation in microstructured tellurite fiber pumped by hybrid Erbium/Thulium fiber laser system
We demonstrate a fibre laser source generating ultrashort pulses tunable in the range 2-2.5 μm. The source is based on a hybrid Er/Tm fiber laser system and microstructured suspended-core tellurite fiber where Raman soliton shifting occurs. Nonlinear soliton dynamics is studied and possibility of tuning beyond 3 μm is shown.

We demonstrated a mode-locked thulium/holmium (Tm/Ho) fiber laser continuously tunable across 200 nm (from 1860 nm to 2060 nm), which to the best of our knowledge represents the widest tuning range ever achieved for a passively mode-locked fiber laser oscillator. The combined use of a broadband carbon nanotube (CNT) saturable absorber and a diffraction grating mirror ensures ultra-broad tuning ...
